One of the strengths of the Spiritual Simplicity Journey is its simplicity. It does not require a large staff or an extensive leadership team to be successful.Â
Every church should appoint a Spiritual Simplicity Director to oversee the Journey from planning through completion. This person provides overall leadership by coordinating promotion, registration, materials, logistics, and communication. Depending on the size of your church, this may be a pastor, discipleship leader, executive pastor, ministry director, or a capable lay leader.
Each Weekly Journey Gathering should also have a Journey Gathering Leader who leads the teaching, guides the flow of the gathering, and supports the Journey Circle Leaders.
Finally, each Journey Circle should have a Journey Circle Leader who facilitates discussion, encourages participation, and prays with the group. Journey Circle Leaders are not teachers. Their role is simply to create a welcoming environment where participants can share what God is teaching them and encourage one another.
In smaller churches, one person may serve in more than one role. For example, the pastor may serve as both the Spiritual Simplicity Director and the Journey Gathering Leader, while several volunteers lead Journey Circles.
In larger churches, these responsibilities are often shared among multiple leaders, allowing each person to focus on a specific area of ministry.
Whatever the size of your church, the leadership model remains the same: one person oversees the Journey, one person leads the weekly gathering, and caring volunteers shepherd the Journey Circles.
The goal is not to build a large leadership structure but to create an environment where people can encounter God, encourage one another, and grow together as disciples of Jesus.
